Who doesn’t love a new genealogy tool for their toolbox?
I have been playing around with a great online tool I recently came across. It’s called Story Maps and it’s a game changer for those wanting a unique way to present their family history.
From their website, they explain that “ESRI Story Maps allows you to combine authoritative maps with narrative text, images and multimedia content. They make it easy to harness the power of maps and geography to tell your story”.
Sounds like a genealogists’ dream to me!
Did I mention it’s free?
I have just begun to play around with it but managed to learn enough to put together this simple Story Map about my 3rd Great Grandfather Nathan B. Wilcox. Check it out below.
Hover your mouse over the image below to scroll. To view it full screen, click the box with the arrow in the bottom right corner.
I plan on using Story Maps in several ways. This one I made as a timeline. Simple as it is, it really helped to determine the holes in my research.
The possibilities for Story Maps in genealogy are endless.
Check it out yourself, play around with it. I think you’re going to love it! Let me know what you create.
I’m off to create more.
